David Gemmell’s Full Collection Coming to Audio

by Pete Richmond
Gollancz have just announced that the world audio rights for David Gemmell’s complete works have been acquired, jointly, by Orion Audio and Hachette Audio.
Gemmell is an outstanding figure in British Fantasy, his first work, Legend, being published back in 1984. He continued to enjoy success with his Drenai series, of which Legend is the first installment, up until 2004 with his final release of the series.
Apart from his world renowned Drenai series, he also published a host of other fantasy series includingthe Rigante series, the Jon Shannow trilogy and the Hawk Queen series (although this last only consists of two books.)
Such is his impact on the genre that after his death in 2006 the David Gemmell Legend awards were launched in his memory, to celebrate traditional Fantasy.
The acquisition of audio rights means that 33 of his books can finally come to audio, meaning his entire back catalogue can now be enjoyed as audio books! Well, not yet, but they’re in the works.
The first new recording scheduled is of his crime novel, Rhyming Rings, but of more interest is that Legend will be released shortly afterwards!
This will hopefully introduce a whole new host of fans to the works of this true fantasy master.
