26th August 2019 – Night Driving and Other Worlds – Ryan Kennedy
Nothing is unremarkable if you look closely enough.
Wherever there are people, there are stories that have gone untold, passing by in an instant and forming a much larger tale that will, unfortunately, have to be told somewhere else.
Within these pages are those small moments; from times that have passed or are passing by as we speak. Some, which have yet to occur, you will also hear, though there will be very little benefit from knowing this particular future.
Each story takes place across one hundred words exactly; no more, no less. While some are bizarre, some are scary and some are, quite simply, odd; no one person’s tale is more or less important than the last.
Perhaps you will find your own story here. If you do, I’m sorry I didn’t mention you by name. You passed me by too quickly to catch it.
29th August 2019 – Once Upon a River – Diane Setterfield
Some say the river drowned her…Some say it brought her back to life
On a dark midwinter’s night in an ancient inn on the Thames, the regulars are entertaining themselves by telling stories when the door bursts open and in steps an injured stranger. In his arms is the drowned corpse of a child.
Hours later, the dead girl stirs, takes a breath and returns to life.
Is it a miracle?
Is it magic?
And who does the little girl belong to?
An exquisitely crafted multi-layered mystery brimming with folklore, suspense and romance, as well as with the urgent scientific curiosity of the Darwinian age, Once Upon a River is as richly atmospheric as Setterfield’s bestseller The Thirteenth Tale.
