LFS Announces 2023 Prometheus Winners
The Libertarian Futurist Society (LFS) recently revealed the winners of the Prometheus Award in the Best Novel category, celebrating literature that promotes freedom. Let’s take a quick look at the winners!
The coveted title of the Best Novel category was awarded to “Cloud-Castles” by Dave Freer, published by Magic Isle. This book must have struck a chord with its pro-freedom themes. Kudos to Dave Freer!
But that’s not all! The LFS also honored other remarkable works. “Widowland” by C.J. Carey (published by Quercus), “Captain Trader Helmsman Spy” by Karl. K. Gallagher (published by Kelt Haven), “A Beast Cannot Feign” by Dr. Insensitive Jerk (Gordon Hanka) (self-published), and “Summer’s End” by John Van Stry (published by Baen) were the runners-up in this category. An impressive lineup of books, for sure!
In addition to the Best Novel category, the LFS also announced the winner of the Hall of Fame Award for Best Classic Fiction. This award recognizes classic works of science fiction or fantasy that embrace libertarian themes. And the winner is… drumroll, please… “Free Men” by Robert Heinlein (published in The Worlds of Robert A. Heinlein). A round of applause for this timeless piece!
Other notable nominees in the Hall of Fame category include “Primary Education of the Camiroi” by R.A. Lafferty (published in Galaxy 12/66), “That Hideous Strength” by C.S. Lewis (published by The Bodley Head), “Circus World” by Barry B. Longyear (published by Nelson Doubleday), and “The Truth” by Terry Pratchett (published by Doubleday; Transworld).
Excitingly, the 43rd annual Prometheus Awards ceremony is set to take place online in mid-August. Stay tuned for the official date and time! Winners will be presented with a gold coin, symbolizing free trade and free minds, mounted on an engraved plaque. How cool is that?
